I just got my 9th tatoo about 3 days ago. It’s a rather large tribal on the inside of my right calf above my ankle. The problem is, after 3 days, the area around the tatoo is very red and sore and the tatoo itself is weeping. I left the bandage on for 2 hours and then washed the tatoo with warm water and an anti-bacterial soap. I patted it dry with a towel and then used a hairdryer on cool on it for 20 minutes to completely dry it. The second day I noticed that the tatoo was weeping and the color was running down my leg. I washed it again and dried it with a towel and have spent the rest of the time blotting it with a tissue, trying to keep it dry. Is this normal?

In general, if you're worried you have an infection you should get it looked at by a professional - MD, etc. However, if there is no surrounding redness, swelling or increasing pain and no fever, the likelihood of an infection is lower. Also, it depends on whether the drainage is purulent or watery and what it smells like. Pain may be the most sensitive sign of an infection. Antibiotics are probably going to be necessary but an allergy to the ink is also possible.

Make sure your eating properly and that can help heal well. Perhaps visit the tattoo shop to see what the guys have to say about your issues.

Hey! I also have a question about a tattoo...i don't think it's infected though...but i was wondering if it was normal for the skin to sort of peel off after having it for a week! I took a shower and then washed as told too, like i have been for 7 days now, and when i patted it dry i noticed that my skin on the tattoo was starting to peel off...so is that normal??

Allie, yes that's normal. Have you been putting neosporin or an equivalent on your tattoo ?

If you have a doubt its better you go to a doctor asap . Infections can get ugly if not treated in time .

You really need to see someone about it. You can always call the parlor you got the tattoo at. There are there to help you. I know after my horizontal eyebrow started acting up, I called my guy and he gave me great tips on what to do.
Good luck!
